Armand "Charlie "Parent, 83, of Carver, formerly of Whitman died unexpectedly on Saturday November 14th in the Jordan hospital in Plymouth. Born in Quincy, he was the son of the late Harold and Georgiana (Cushing) Parent.
Charlie grew up in Weymouth and was educated in the Weymouth School System.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII.
He was married to the former Alice M (Mathisen) Parent in 1951 and they lived with their family in Whitman for most of their lives until her death on June 8, 2000.
Retired for many years, Charlie was formerly employed by DB Gurney Company in Whitman, Universal Sign Company and was also an ironworker at the Quincy Shipyard. He enjoyed spending time anywhere near the water and his favorite pastime was fishing. He also enjoyed antique cars, attending auto shows, playing cribbage and most of all, loved playing the lottery. Charlie always had a smile on his face and usually had an interesting or amusing story to share. His love of the upper Cape Cod area and cranberry bogs led to his purchase of a home in Carver in 2007, where he made several new friends and lived until his death.
He leaves his children, Stephen C. Parent of Whitman, John Parent and his wife Linda of Halifax, Mary Young and her husband Paul of Whitman and Francine M. Howard and her husband Daniel of Norfolk: three grandsons, Joseph and Matthew Young and John Parent all of Whitman, ; two granddaughters, Nicole and Ashley Howard of Norfolk; a brother, William Parent of Rockland and a grandson by marriage, David Rollins of Raynham; many nieces and nephews. Charlie was also predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Virgil Parent.
His services will be held on Wednesday November 18th at 10:15AM, from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Interment will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman, MA Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 17th from 6:00-9:00PM.In lieu of flowers, donations my be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
