Barbara Jean Leavitt, of Halifax, MA, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at the age of 82 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born on January 26, 1944, in Brockton, MA, she was the daughter of Hank and Barbara Weichel. She grew up in Bridgewater, MA. Later in life, she lived in West Bridgewater with her late husband, Douglas, and in Whitman, MA, with her late husband, George.
Throughout her life, Barbara loved being involved with numerous charities throughout the South Shore and enjoyed co-hosting big cookouts at The Cottages in Wareham. She cherished the time spent with family and friends and the many memories made together.
Barbara is survived by her sister and best friend, Brenda, and her brothers Terry, Jack, Frank, and Dennis; her children Paul, Suzanne, Doug, and Jeff; her beloved grandchildren Alicyn, Amy, and Kasia; and her great-granddaughter, Mae. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 45 years, George; her son, Michael; her grandson, Jacob; and her first husband, Douglas Hill.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Stoughton, as well as the Halifax Fire Department and EMTs, for their care and compassion. Their kindness and support while helping both Barbara and George will never be forgotten by the family.
A private memorial will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the
Halifax Fire Department in Barbara’s memory.
