Obituary

Carol A. Porter, of Abington, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service to others.

Carol was born on July 29, 1951, in Quincy, Massachusetts. She was the beloved daughter of the late James and Doris Ahearn. Raised in Brockton, Carol was a graduate of Brockton High School.

In 1984, Carol began her professional career as a secretary at Hills Department Stores. Through hard work, intelligence, and perseverance, she quickly climbed the corporate ladder. Her talent and dedication ultimately led her to a very successful and fulfilling career, retiring as Media Director for Jordan’s Furniture. Carol took great pride in her accomplishments and was widely respected for her professionalism, tough negotiating skills, and assertiveness. She formed many lasting friendships throughout the Boston advertising community and was beloved by all who had the pleasure of working with her.

A woman of deep faith, Carol was a devoted member of Joy in Christ Lutheran Church in Abington, where she taught Sunday school, coordinated youth group activities, and served on the church council. It was at church that Carol built lifelong friendships and met the love of her life—truly divine intervention and a precious gift from the Lord above.

Carol was the beloved wife of the late George Porter. Married for 24 years, Carol and George met at church and shared a wonderful life together filled with love, faith, and companionship. They were fortunate to travel the world together, visiting all of Europe, Russia, and much of the United States, creating treasured memories along the way. Carol also generously volunteered her time supporting Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fundraising events, a cause close to her heart.

Carol found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and baking for her family and friends, always happiest when sharing what she created. Her famed spaghetti sauce was simply the best, and loved ones are now frantically searching, hoping she wrote down the recipe.

This past year, Carol spent time learning Mahjong and looked forward to each Thursday spent laughing and playing with her Mahjong ladies. A true New Englander at heart, she was also a passionate supporter of her Boston sports teams, cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm.

Carol leaves behind her children, Paula Grey of Little River, South Carolina, and David Grey of Abington, Massachusetts; her stepson, Gary Porter, and his wife, Cindi, of New Durham, New Hampshire. She was a beloved “Gege” to Kelli, Dean, Jameson, and Bennett, and a cherished great- “Gege” to Greyson.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, December 18, from 4:00–7:00 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 at the rotary), Whitman. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19, at 10:00 AM at the First Congregational Church, 639 High Street, Hanson, with a reception to follow.

Above all, Carol cherished her family and the many relationships she nurtured throughout her life. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carol Porter may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main Street, Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760.
