Charles "Charley" E. Pace, 65, of Whitman, passed away on June 30th after a construction accident in Plymouth. He was the beloved husband of 46 years to Mildred (Center) Pace, son of Dorothy (Parnaby) (Pace) Peterson and the late Charles F. Pace, father of Jennifer (Pace) Jenness and her husband Rich, Amy (Pace) Smith and her husband Steven and Philip Pace and his wife Julie (Blackwell) Pace, grandfather of Samantha Smith, Cyril Jenness, Anna Fabrizio, Tadg Jenness, Kelsie Pace, Nathan Smith, Michael Pace, Owen Pace, Abby Pace, great grandfather of Julietta Jenness Fabrizio, brother of Bernard, Wayne and Fred Pace, Billey and John Peterson, Corinne Maloney, Dawn Blasingame and Michelle Campbell; also many aunts, uncles nieces and nephews.
Born in Weymouth, grew up in Whitman and was a graduate of Whitman–Hanson, class of 1967.He has been a Whitman resident for many years.
Charley worked pumping gas, delivering eggs, was a cable splicer for the phone company and then went on to driving a bus for Interstate Coach, Greyhound and Bloom. He owned his own limousine company with 6 stretch limos, 2 sedans and 3 executive coaches. In 1993 he went to work for Mills Pallet Company, repairing pallets, then worked for Jack Casoli. His present employer is P.A. Landers, where he has worked for more than 10 years. If given a choice to retire or play in the sand with a loader, he would choose the loader every time.
He belonged to the Puritan Lodge, The Scottish Rite of Boston and Aleppo Shriners. Charley was the past president of the South Shore Shrine Club.
Charley loved spending time with family and friends, loved camping and in 2005 bought a converted greyhound bus, his dream, as he loved to travel. He worked hard all his life and loved his job.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 8th in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman from 4:00-8:00PM, followed by a Masonic Service at 8:00. Burial will be at a later date.
Donations may be made in his name to Shriners Children's Transportation Fund, 99 Fordham Road, Wilmington, MA 01887.
