Charles D. "Charlie " Ponder, Sr. 64, of East Bridgewater, died Tuesday June 16th surrounded by his family at home. He was the loving husband of Marjorie J. (Cole) Ponder. Charles was born in Tupelo, MS. and was the son of the late Talmedge and Tina (Archer) Ponder. Charlie grew up in Mississippi, until the age of 12. He has been a resident of East Bridgewater for the past 35 years.
He was employed by the Polaroid Corporation for 25 years, a welder for Buildout Company for the past 3 years.
Charlie was a veteran of the United States Navy, from 1961-1965. He was a 2nd class petty officer on the U.S.S. Okinawa during the Cuban Missle Crisis.
He enjoyed, restoring cars, woodworking, target shooting and working with his hands.
In addition to his loving wife Marjorie, he was the loving father of, Charles D. Ponder, Jr and his wife Jane, of East Bridgewater and Cheri J. Fox and her husband William of Halifax, loving grandfather of Cassie and Delaney Ponder of East Bridgewater, Mackenzie and Heather Fox of Halifax, loving brother of Tal and Bob Ponder of Florida, Bill Ponder of Maine, Betty Austin of Mississippi, June Eblen of Florida and Nel Salori of Brockton. He was also the brother of the late Lucille Ponder.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday June 20th at 10:00AM in the Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, MA. His visiting hours will be held on Friday June 19th from 4:00-8:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Donations may be made in his name to the Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
