Obituary

Cynthia P. (Saro) De Santes, 78, of Whitman, Massachusetts passed away on January 13th after a brief illness and a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Beloved wife of Thomas A. De Santes for 57 years. Loving mother of Thomas De Santes and his wife Kelly of Sandwich, and Brian De Santes and his wife Sarah of Hanson. Treasured grandmother of Domenic, Rocco, Drew, Ashton, and Teddy De Santes. Cherished sister of Louis Saro and his fiance Lisa Capostagno of Braintree. She is also survived by her Aunt Helen, her Uncle Steve, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1947 to James and Rita (George) Saro, Cynthia grew up in Dorchester where she fostered lifelong best friends and graduated from the Jeremiah E. Burke School for Girls in 1965.

She was a longtime resident of Whitman where she lovingly raised her two sons and joyfully babysat her five baby grandsons to support the two devoted daughters-in-law who joined the close-knit family she had forever dreamed of building. For many years, she was an active member of the Mother’s Club, a dedicated den mother for the local cub scout troop, and an irreplaceable pillar of the Green Acres neighborhood. Before her illness and after her favorite role as stay-at-home-mom for her boys, she returned to the workforce in banking and then joined the Whitman school system, helping countless children with their learning challenges. Of her greatest joys, she loved hosting large holiday gatherings all year long and impromptu pool parties throughout the summer for anyone and everyone who accepted the open invitation.

In recent years, Cynthia adored spending time with her five grandsons at their various games and school events; loved cheering all New England sports teams (including UConn women’s basketball), enjoyed singing her favorite oldies on karaoke, and savored baking Baklava and Spinach Pie, traditions passed down from her grandmother. She was proud of her Albanian roots and made sure her heritage is surviving in the next generations. Family was her whole world and she will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral Service on Tuesday, January 20th at 10 a.m. at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth St, Whitman, MA 02382. A private burial will take place immediately after the funeral service.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
