Debra S.
Sheputa
April 24, 2026
Debra S. Sheputa, age 65, of Rockland, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Mass General Brigham, surrounded by the love of her husband and son, following a brief illness.
Debra was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, to Gerald Vaughn Grant and Lorraine Agnes (Estabrook) Grant. She was a proud graduate of Rockland High School, Class of 1978. A lifelong learner, Debra pursued her education with diligence and determination, earning an Associate Degree from Massasoit Community College in 1981, a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Stonehill College in 1987, an Associate Degree in Nursing from Quincy College in 1994, and a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Anna Maria College in 1998.
Debra devoted her professional life to service and compassion. She spent many years as a Senior Business Analyst supporting the MassHealth Medicaid system before retiring in 2022. In addition, she found deep fulfillment working as a per-diem nurse at Bridgewater State Hospital and, more recently, at Mass General Brigham McLean, (Middleborough). Debra had a genuine passion for helping those living with mental health challenges and took great pride in the care and support she provided.
Outside of her professional life, Debra found joy in many meaningful pursuits. For decades, she shared a love of antiquing with one of her closest friends, taking particular delight in discovering unique Nippon pieces. Over time, that passion evolved into redecorating her home, which became a creative outlet and a source of relaxation. Shopping and thoughtfully arranging her home were her ways of unwinding from long and often irregular work hours.
One of Debra’s great pleasures was caring for her beloved cat, Rosie. Rosie was her constant companion and meant the world to her. Through her love of antiquing and decorating, Debra also found ways to give back, frequently donating and supporting causes that helped cats in need. She especially loved Safe Haven Thrift Store (ME), where she quietly and generously supported the mission.
Debra also had a fondness for visiting tea rooms throughout Massachusetts and Maine with another best friend. Few people knew that she began a new tradition with her and her son Joshua when he was very young; those tea outings became their special time together, a bond they shared for many years. As time went on, those moments evolved into enjoying coffee and conversation together. Debra’s favorite times, however, were spent traveling with her husband. They especially cherished their trips to Ogunquit, Maine, always looking forward to returning there together.
A woman of steadfast faith, Debra carried Jesus in her heart throughout her life. She was deeply involved in church communities while growing up, as a young adult, and later with her family. Debra and her family spent many years attending the Nazarene Church of Weymouth, building lasting friendships and a strong spiritual foundation. They were currently attending Calvary Chapel in Rockland, where their son graduated from high school. Debra often spoke fondly of her time with Fire Escape Ministries, a Christian coffeehouse now located in Weymouth Landing, and of the mission trips she participated in during younger years. She also cherished her friendships and fellowship at Glad Tidings Church in Quincy, Massachusetts.
Debra was the beloved wife of nearly 25 years to Frank Sheputa, and a devoted and loving mother to Joshua Sheputa. She is also survived by her four sisters: Linda Ann Peckham of Presque Isle, Maine; Jessie Grant of Presque Isle, Maine; Jennifer Landry of Maine; and Pamela Stickney and her husband Frank of Sanford, Maine.
A celebration of Deb’s life will be Saturday May 9th at 1pm at Calvary Chapel Rockland, 175 Market St. located in the Rockland Plaza. Burial will be held privately, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Debra’s memory may be made to Safe Haven Thrift Store, where she was affectionately known as Shiloh. Donation information may be found at:
