Dorothy M. Paine (Coffey), age 92, formerly of Hanson and Chatham, Massachusetts, passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham.
Born on May 12, 1933, Dorothy was raised in Weymouth before moving to Hanson, where she graduated from Whitman High School in 1951. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Frank. The two married and built a life together in Hanson, raising their three children.
During her years in Hanson, Dorothy worked in the public school system as an assistant to the school nurse and later in the cafeteria. She went on to work for Blue Cross until her retirement. After retiring, Dorothy and Frank moved to Chatham, where they spent many happy years enjoying the community, participating in local activities, and, most importantly, creating lasting memories with their family—hosting weekend visits, cookouts, and cherished days at the beach.
Affectionately known as “Dottie,” she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel Coffey. She shared 68 years of marriage with her husband Frank until his passing in 2019.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children: Donna (Norman) White, Diane (Kevin) Monaghan, and Karl (Robin) Paine. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren—Mandy Paine, Adam (Vivian) Fest, Erica Paine, and Ainsley (Ryan) O’Connell—as well as five great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her stepbrother, Rich Monroe, along with several nieces and nephews, both family and those she lovingly considered “adopted.”
Known as “Oma” to her family, Dorothy treasured the time she spent with her loved ones. She had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. Oma welcomed everyone into her life with open arms, and if you met her even once, you mattered to her. She kept track of family, friends, and even those who crossed her path only briefly, making sure you received a birthday card each year. It was simply who she was—endlessly thoughtful and kind.
Services will be held at Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Whitman, Massachusetts, on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Visiting hours will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM. Burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested that donations be made to First Congregational Church, 639 High Street, Hanson, MA 02341, or First Congregational Church of Chatham, 650 Main Street, Chatham, MA 02633.
