Obituary

Gerald L. Dibbern of Springfield and formerly of Hanson, MA died on September 16, 2026 at his residence with his wife Donna by his side. During his recent period of failing health, Donna was a devoted caregiver and advocate.

Jerry was the beloved son of the late Geraldine Dibbern. He married Donna (Dolan) on February 11, 1967 and was the beloved father of John Dibbern and James Dibbern and his wife Stacy. Jerry was the proud grandfather of Leo Dibbern, Samantha Dibbern and Matthew Dibbern. He leaves his sister Claire Hallisey and her husband William, along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Jerry loved to play and coach basketball, enjoyed golfing, including his annual outings to New Hampshire with the guys. He shared a love of country music with John and they took trips to FanFare in Nashville where they met some of their favorite artists. He also enjoyed spending time playing Scrabble with John. He looked forward to his annual trip with Jamie to Cooperstown, where he could strike up a conversation about baseball with anyone and Herkimer, NY, always in search of the next great Herkimer diamond. His sense of humor was unmatched and he loved to torment Stacy with gifts that were ironic. He was immensely proud to be called Papa by his three grandchildren and loved treating them to special adventures.

As a lifelong lover of the Boston sports teams, Jerry proudly displayed his loyalty on his license plate honoring Ted Williams. He never passed up a game of cribbage and loved to play cards with good friends.

Jerry served his country honorably in the United States Coast Guard aboard the Eastwind and retired from the US Postal Service after more than 20 years delivering mail to the residents of Duxbury so that he could care for his son, John. After retirement Jerry found joy as a part time limousine driver where he met many Boston athletes which was one of his “claims to fame’”

Jerry’s family will receive friends and family at the Blanchard Funeral Home on October 5, 2026 from 10:30 until 12:30. A memorial service will take place in the funeral home immediately following the visitation. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Hanson Food Pantry, 228 High Street, Hanson, MA 02341 or to the charity of one’s choice.
