Obituary

James A. Clergy, lovingly known as “Jimmy,” passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2026, at the age of 63.

Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and unforgettable moments. He was known for his bubbly personality and remarkable ability to make light of even the heaviest situations. His infectious smile, quick wit, and warm presence could instantly lift a room, and he truly was the life of every gathering.

Above all else, Jimmy loved his family. He cherished his children and grandchildren deeply and took immense pride in being a father and grandfather. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Fifi, who was always by his side.

Jimmy was one of the hardest-working men you could ever meet—someone who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. He was never one to brag, instead choosing to show his character through his actions, his generosity, and his unwavering loyalty to those he loved.

He proudly served his country as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, reflecting his strength, dedication, and quiet sense of duty.

A true jack of all trades, Jimmy seemed to know how to fix just about anything. He generously passed down his skills, “tricks,” and practical wisdom to his family, leaving behind not only memories, but lessons that will live on for generations.

Jimmy is reunited in peace with his mother, Lois Clergy; his father, John “Jack” Clergy; and his brother, John “Johnny” Clergy.

He leaves behind his children, Nathan Clergy, Eric Clergy, and his daughter Katie White and son-in-law Joseph White. He was a devoted and adoring grandfather to his two granddaughters, Maggie James and Charlotte Elizabeth, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Karen Clergy; Shelley Cahill and her husband Damien; Lynne Artz and her husband Blake; and Gail McDonald and her husband James.

Jimmy also leaves behind cherished extended family members Jody Clergy, and Vincent and Phyllis Savill, who held a special place in his heart, along with many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

Jimmy found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—spending time with family, playing a round of golf, enjoying drinks with the boys, and shore fishing on Duxbury Beach in hopes of catching a “big one.” Whether telling stories, sharing laughs, or simply enjoying the moment, Jimmy knew how to make memories that will be treasured forever.

A kind, loving, and humble man, Jimmy will be remembered for his generous heart, humor, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. His spirit lives on in the laughter of his family, the stories of friends, and the many lives he touched.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Sunday, January 11, 2026 from 2-4 pm in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, RTE 58 (at the rotary circle), Whitman. Immediately after, there wil be a service at 4pm in the funeral home.
