Janet Smith, 80, of East Bridgewater Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Brockton Hospital on July 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Quincy, in 1946, she was the second daughter of the late Samuel and Doris Barnard and sister of Doris, and brothers, David and Rusty Barnard.

Janet graduated from East Bridgewater High School and spent her entire life living in East Bridgewater with her devoted husband, Jim. They were married for 62 years and had two children, Michelle and Jim Jr.

Janet worked for many years at the CVS in Hanson, where she was loved by her customers and coworkers. Janet adored her cat, Mitzi who was her constant companion as she watched Fox news. She also enjoyed her family trips to the Outer Banks, walks with her husband Jim on Castle Island and family gatherings.

Above all, Janet adored her grandchildren: Shayna, Kristy, Ashley, Patrick, and Mitchell. Janet was loved for her generous spirit and passion for her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. There was nothing she wouldn't do for the people she loved.

Janet faced life's challenges with strength and resilience, never losing the generosity and love that defined her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The Smith family extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who stood beside Janet throughout her journey. Your love, kindness, and support will never be forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to attend Janet's visiting hours on Thursday, July 30th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth Street, Route 58, Whitman, Massachusetts.
