Joan R. (DeCota) Wolent, 88, of Abington, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at Colony Center for Health and Rehabilitation. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, in 1937, she was the eldest daughter of the late Leo J DeCota and Rita (Johnson) DeCota. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Peter S. Wolent, and later by her husband, Leo Provost.
Joan graduated from Abington High School in 1955 and attended Regis College. She was employed by Brockton Hospital as an Xray Technician Assistant and enjoyed taking care of patients. She had a lifelong love of music of all kinds and enjoyed attending concerts. She also found great joy in square dancing, camping, gardening, and spending time outdoors.
A devoted woman of faith, Joan was an active parishioner of the Light of Christ Collaborative in Abington and Whitman, Massachusetts, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a proud member of the Blessed Mother Sodality and a Franciscan Tertiary.
After the loss of her beloved husband, Peter, Joan found love again and married Leo Provost in 2005. Together they enjoyed many happy retirement years traveling, participating in community activities, and organizing social events while living in the White Pines Community in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
Joan is survived by her sister, Jeanne Satterwhite, and her husband, Gerry, of Florida; her children, Brian P. Wolent and his partner, Dottie Nickles, of East Bridgewater, Lynette Wolent of East Bridgewater, and Theresa Scheufele and her husband, Matthew Scheufele, of East Bridgewater; her granddaughters, Heather Knight, Cynthia Wolent, Catherine Ferris, Christine Ferris, Erin Ferris, and Emily Ferris; and six great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth Street, Whitman, Massachusetts. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church in Whitman. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Rockland, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Holy Ghost Church, 518 Washington Street, Whitman Massachusetts.
