Obituary

Duxbury – Joaquim "Jack" DeFaria 83, died Sunday August 3, surrounded by his family, after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Julieta (Andrade) DeFaria.

Born July 29, 1931 in Praia, Cape Verde he was the son of the late Alfredo and Ida (Fiejoo) DeFaria and had moved to the United States in 1954.

Prior to his retirement he had worked for over 40 years as a General Agent for the Constitution Life and Midland Life Insurance Companies

He was a familiar face locally as he served many years as both a Notary Public and Justice of The Peace in the South Shore area.

He was a longtime member of the Ideal Club, had enjoyed playing the Viola and loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife Julieta, he is survived by his sisters Carlota Faria and Constanca Faria as well as many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late Maria Rose Alfaia, Silvia Costa and Osvaldo De Faria.

His services will be held Thursday August 7 at 10 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM in the Holy Family Church, Rockland. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday August 6 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
