Obituary

John “Jack” Johnson, 61, of Whitman, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Winthrop, Massachusetts, to the late William H. Johnson and Josephine Johnson, Jack was raised in Revere, where he formed lifelong friendships and built the foundation that guided him throughout his life. A 1983 graduate of Revere High School, Jack was a talented athlete who played basketball, football, and baseball, with basketball being his greatest passion.

At 18 years old, Jack began his career with Local 223 in Boston. Through more than three decades in the trade, he earned the respect of his coworkers through his dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic, serving many years as a foreman before retiring at the age of 50.

Jack was the hardest-working man his family and friends ever knew. Intelligent, creative, and quick-witted, he had a way of making everyone laugh and feel welcome. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for the people he loved.

In 2001, Jack made Whitman his home, where he built a life centered around family, friends, and community. Jack was a proud sports fan, supporting all Boston teams. He also enjoyed sharing his love of basketball through coaching Ducks AAU and Whitman Youth Basketball.

Above all else, Jack was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was the beloved husband of Rita Chalifoux-Johnson; the proud father of Megan Miraglia, Erinann Johnson and her fiancée, Philip Witham, and Olivia Johnson; and the loving grandfather of Aidan, Ronan, Charlotte, Addison, Audrey, and Jack. His family was his greatest joy.

Jack is survived by his loving mother, Josephine Johnson; his brother, Mark Johnson and his wife, Robin, of North Andover, Mass.; his brother, William Johnson and his wife, Michelle, of West Palm Beach, Florida; his nephew, Mark W. Johnson; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his father, William H. Johnson.

Jack faced life’s challenges with strength and resilience, never losing the humor, generosity, and love that defined him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and devotion to the people he loved. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The Johnson family extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who stood beside Jack throughout his journey. Your love, prayers, kindness, and support will never be forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to attend Jack’s visiting hours on Saturday, July 18th from 12:00-3:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
