John T. Noone's Obituary

John Thomas Noone, 75, of Whitman and Canton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Pat Roche Hospice Home after a more than 20-year battle with myelofibrosis, a form of blood cancer.

Born on September 22, 1950, to Francis Noone and Sophia (McKinnon) Noone and raised in Quincy, John was a graduate of both Boston College High School and Boston College, where he studied history, a subject he loved. He later obtained a master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island.

John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of more than 50 years, Patricia (Shaughnessy) Noone, and their three children, Patrick Noone of Canton and his spouse, Christine DeRosa, Shaun Noone of Canton and his spouse, Dawnmarie Simpson, and Erin (Noone) Johnson of East Bridgewater and her spouse, Carl Johnson, as well as one grandchild, Juliana Noone, one step-grandchild, Hannah Johnson of Worcester and her partner, Tory Niles, and one step-great-grandchild, Elea Niles.

John lived to give back to the community and people in his life. He was on the Whitman school committee for ten years and spent many hours participating in various Whitman town government committees. He was the president of the Whitman Hanson Kingston youth hockey program and served on the South Shore Hockey conference board, where the highlight of his work was arranging several visits from the Soviet Union youth hockey programs. In his free time, John loved family vacations including many trips to Disney World, Ireland and the Bahamas in addition to tending to the many gardens at his Whitman home. He was a long-time member of the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association.

John proudly worked more than 40 years in the U.S. Social Security Administration Disability Program retiring as a Boston branch chief. He was a faithful civil servant who enjoyed his job getting to the right outcome and helping those most in need.

John’s family wants to thank all the amazing doctors, nurses, aides, and support staff who cared for John. Special thanks to his primary oncologist, Dr. Jacqueline S. Garcia of Dana-Farber and her team. Without her compassion, focus, and time dedicated to his care, John would not have lived as long as he did after his initial diagnosis. Thanks to his primary care physician, Dr. Patricia Hopkins, and his original oncologist, Dr. Satinder Dhillon.

Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday, April 14, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth Street, Route 58, Whitman, MA 02382. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Wednesday, April 15, at 10:30 AM at the Holy Ghost Parish, 518 Washington Street, Whitman, MA, with burial to follow at Saint James Cemetery.
