Obituary

Abington – John R. Pignataro 78, a long time resident of Abington, died Sunday October 9 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Lois (Walsh) Pignataro.

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York he was the son of the late Louis and Madeline (Barnes) Pignataro.

John had been a proud Veteran of the US Navy having served over seas during the Korean War from 1952-1956, and later transferring to the Naval Reserves where he retired with over 40 years of military service.

He continued his education earning his Bachelor's degree from Northeastern University in Boston and worked for the US Postal Service for over 30 years until his retirement.

John had been an active member of the Abington community, serving as Color Guard for the VFW and the American Legion, and was a life member of the Abington VFW. He was a communicant of the St. Bridget Church where he served as an usher at various masses.

He is survived by his children Stephen J. Pignataro of Pawtucket, RI, Karen A. Pignataro of Sandwich, Richard J. Pignataro of Ludlow, and David R. Pignataro of Enfield, CT, his brothers Michael Pignataro of CA and Gerald Pignataro of PA, and his sister Mary of Ashley Falls, MA. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held Saturday October 15 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington. Visiting hours will be held Friday October 14 from 4 – 7 PM.
