Joseph Felix
Manning Jr.
d. Jun 18, 2026
Joseph Felix Manning Jr., 79, of Abington, MA, passed peacefully at his home on June 18, 2026, surrounded by his family and beloved springer spaniel, Hillary. Born on May 11, 1947, in Dedham, MA, Joe was the son of Marjorie Herbert Manning and Joseph F. Manning Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca Mitchell Manning, and daughters Jodi-Lyn Manning of Springfield, MA; Megan Pybus and husband TJ of North Andover, MA; Kathleen Mahoney and husband Ryan of Hanson, MA; and Andrea Novello and Michael of Gloucester, MA. He was the very proud Papa to nine grandchildren: Benjamin, Calleigh, Johnny, Brody, Conor, Charlotte, James, Joey, and Jaxson. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Barber, and husband Charles of Middleboro, MA, as well as his niece, Rachele Hunsinger of Hanson, MA.
Joseph was a graduate of Dedham High School and built his lifelong career as a marine mechanic in Scituate and Quincy, MA, for over 45 years. He was a lover of the water, and in his younger years, he enjoyed being on his boat, whether water skiing, tubing, or speed racing in Plymouth. Joe found his greatest joy at his home on Island Grove Pond. He took immense pride in his home, it was his sanctuary and a reflection of the life he loved. He could often be found outside tending to his yard, always making it beautiful and welcoming. He shared a special bond with his dog, Hillary, whose companionship brought him endless joy and whose presence brightened each day.
Joe was a devoted family man who was happiest spending time with those he loved. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment he spent with them. He loved teaching them life skills, sharing lessons learned through experience, and passing along the values of hard work, kindness, and family. One of his favorite traditions was transforming into Santa Claus each Christmas, bringing excitement, laughter, and magic to the holiday season. The memories he created with them and the lessons he passed on will remain treasured gifts that they carry with them throughout their lives.
He cherished family camping trips, creating countless memories around campfires and the great outdoors. Joe was also a talented woodworker and had a love of fixing things with his hands. He had a gift for turning simple pieces of wood into beautiful and lasting creations, each made with patience, skill, and love. Whether he was building something in his workshop, repairing something that needed a second life, or enjoying nature with his family, he approached life with a hardworking spirit and a generous heart. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose love, strength, and generosity touched many lives. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, strong family values, and countless memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation Wednesday, June 24th from 4-7PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, (RTE 58 at the rotary circle), Whitman. Immediately following there will be a service at 7pm at the funeral home.
