Obituary

Julia Marie (Bureau) Pimental, 90, of Whitman died Friday April 1st surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was the wife of the late Thomas A. Pimental, Sr.
Julia was born in Abington, daughter of the late Victor and Aurora (Jacob) Bureau.
A graduate of Whitman High School.
She worked at the old Regal Shoe Factory in the cutting and stitching room, also at the Duval and Park Ave School in the lunch program for many years. In her later years Julia and her husband Tom had a candy store in the center of Whitman for several years. They also ran a Popcorn & Candy Apple Trailer at the Whitman Football games and other activities in town.
Julia was a member of the Whitman American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She served as Senior Vice-President in 1947 with her mother Aurora Bureau as Junior Vice President. In October 1947, Julia became President of the Legion Auxiliary and remained President until September 1949 when she then served on the Executive Board for many years. In October of 1948 Julia was elected President again and her husband Thomas was elected Commander of the Whitman American Legion. They were the first husband and wife head of the Legions and were installed in a joint installation at Whitman High School on October 21, 1948.
She celebrated her 89th birthday for 3 weeks at Disney World in Florida, one of many birthdays celebrated there with family. During her stay at Disney, she also saw her beloved "Red Sox" play at Disney's Wide World of Sports. the crowning glory for her was seeing them win the World Series in her lifetime as her father Victor also an avid fan, had missed that win!
Julia was an avid camper with her family, traveling to many states in the US. Later after her husbands passing, she traveled extensively with her daughter and grandson. One trip was to Rouen, France to meet her pen pal from 7th grade, which she corresponded with for years and still does to this day.
She was a wonderful baker, loved knitting, crocheting, sewing, camping and time with her family. We will miss her dearly, but most of all of her great grandchildren will miss her warmth, caring and great stories of the "good old days" Rest in peace Julia.
She is survived by her children Susan Tautkus of Whitman, David Pimental and his wife Kay of RI., Thomas Pimental, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Whitman, her sisters Rita Harding of VT., Edna Godfrey of Mexico, her grandchildren, Gregory Tautkus and his wife Michelle of Norton, Julie Chalmers and her husband Eric of Whitman, Thomas Pimental, III and his wife Tanya of Brockton, Rachel Ventura and her husband Victor of Stoughton, Kristin Riddle and her husband Jay of RI and Stephanie Pimental of RI, her great grandchildren, Brittany and Zachary Chalmers, Logan Tautkus, Lucy and Jack Pimental and Lauren Ventura,also her dear friend the late Camile Sante.
Her services will be held on Wednesday April 6th at 8:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Plymouth, MA. Visiting hours will be held of Tuesday April 5th from 4:00-8:00. Donations may be made in her name to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 20 Walnut St. #318 , Wellesley, MA. or the Hospice of the South Shore, 100Bay State Dr., Braintree, MA 02184
