Manus J. Getchell Jr., Age 95, passed away unexpectedly on March 29, 2026 surrounded by his family. 

He was born in Brockton Mass in 1931 to the late Manus and Mary (Fogerty) Getchell. He attended Whitman High School and graduated in 1949. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the military and proudly served in the Coast Guard. After completing his service, Manus began work as an apprentice plumber and completed night courses to become a licensed plumber. He ran a successful plumbing, heating and hardware business in Whitman for many years. He was an active member of the community with the Knights of Columbus and the Kiwanis Club.

He was married to the late Shirley (Thayer) for 68 years. Manus and Shirley resided in Whitman for many years where they raised their family before moving to Plymouth and then Harwich while wintering in Florida. Manus enjoyed traveling, golfing and socializing with family and the many friends he made over the years. He loved his children, 10 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren. Family meant everything to him. He truly loved his wife and missed her dearly after her passing.

He leaves behind 3 sons and 3 daughters- Michael & Regina Getchell of Whitman MA, Mark & Katherine Getchell of Whitman MA, Mary Bagnell & Tim Campbell of Atlantis FL, Kathleen & Steven Rinaldi of Punta Gorda FL, Thomas & Jill Getchell of Whitman MA, and Amy Horsman of Peabody MA.

Lastly, the family would like to thank the dedicated women who helped care for Manus over the last few years. He really enjoyed his time with each of you.

Services will be held at Blanchard Funeral Chapel 666 Plymouth Street Whitman MA 02382 on Saturday April 18 th 2026. Visiting hours will be from 1-3pm followed by a service at 3pm. Burial will be held at a later date.
