IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha E.
Leary
December 6, 2025
Martha Leary (ne: Satchell) of Holbrook died peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 6th, 2025.
Survived by her sons Paul and Edward, her nephews John, Kevin, Will, PJ, niece Betsy, and her granddaughter Kate.
Martie was born March 26, 1925 in Dorchester to begin a 100-year journey of life and adventure. Her first job as an adult was to work on the food service of the Boston to New York run of the New Haven Railroad, an experience that sparked both her love of
travel and her career in the food service industry. As a single mother, she raised two sons by working long nights in the restaurant industry, coming home late with sore feet and a couple dollars in tips. In the 50’s and 60’s, her career and her love of travel combined as she made several trips to and from West Palm Beach, in order to work the Florida winter season. Packing her two sons, boxes of clothes, and an overweight cocker spaniel into a trusty Chevrolet, she drove the entire 1,500 miles on 2-lane roads in the years before superhighways, and she boasted about her best time of 31 hours door-to-door. Later adventures included visits to Holland and Spain. In the 80’s and 90’s, she also organized numerous “bingo trips” in which she led dozens of people on buses to the bingo halls at the Cherokee Reservation in South Carolina, the casinos in Reno and Las Vegas. She is now headed off to her next adventure.
Martie was pre-deceased by her mother Mary, her husband Paul, sister Mildred, brother Jack, brother Eddie, brother Paul.
Family and friends are invited to attend Martie’s visiting hours on Friday, December 12th, from 10:00-11:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Norwell Visiting Nurses Association (dba Croi Health at 120 Longwater Dr., Norwell, MA 02061).
