Plymouth - Mary Anne (Kjelgaard) Sheehy 92, formerly of Weymouth and Whitman, passed away on February 11, 2026 after a long illness. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving children. She was the beloved wife of 57 years to David V. Sheehy Sr., who passed away in 2013.
Born in Endicott, New York, Mary was the daughter of the late Winfield and Mary (Morris) Kjelgaard. Mary graduated from Sacred Heart High School, class of 1951. She furthered her education and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Catherine Labouré School of Nursing in 1954. Mary worked in various specialties in nursing and many healthcare facilities throughout Eastern Massachusetts. She was known for her kind and compassionate manner with her patients.
After her retirement, Mary resided in Plymouth with her husband David. They enjoyed many years living near family in the area. Mary was involved in several church communities on the South Shore and loved serving in the music ministry, as an organist and choir director. Her deep love for her Catholic faith was evident in her daily life and her service to the church. Mary especially loved her family, and prayed continuously for each and every member.
Mary is survived by her loving children Virginia M. Larochelle, and the late Gervais Larochelle of Worcester, Mary P. Estano and her husband Joseph Estano, of Plymouth, David V. Sheehy Jr. and the late Kimberly Sheehy, of Kingston, Susan M. O’Sullivan, and her husband Daniel O’Sullivan of Boston, and Anne M. D’Angelo, and her husband, James D’Angelo of Plymouth. She is also survived by her sister Rita Fusaro of Maine. Mary was the loving sister of the late Paul Kjelgaard, Joseph Kjelgaard and Christine Elliott. Mary is survived and loved by 27 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mary’s visiting hours on Friday, February 20th from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. All are welcome at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 21st at 9:45 AM before proceeding to a funeral Mass at the Holy Ghost Church at 10:30 AM in Whitman. A burial will immediately follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland.
