Halifax – Michael Pecoraro 96 died Saturday January 8 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Grace F. (Chenery) Pecoraro.
Born in Waterbury, CT and raised in Springfield, MA and Dorchester, MA he was the son of the late Carmine and Mary J. (Devita) Pecoraro and a graduate of Memorial High School for Boys, Class of 1931, and for two years he had attended Northeastern University School of Law.
During WWII Michael had worked as a welder at the Fore River Ship Yard. He later became a skilled meat cutter and maintenance worker. After his retirement he worked twenty years at Shaw's in Hanson.
Michael had been a resident of Braintree from 1951-1977. Upon his first retirement in 1977, he along with his late wife Grace moved to Halifax where he remained a resident for the last thirty four years.
He was an active member of the Prospect A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge, where he had served as a Master and a District Deputy. He was also a Past Patron of the Eastern Star of Braintree. He also served as Monarch of Taleb Grotto in Quincy.
He is survived by his loving children Alys M. Walker and her husband H. Raymon of Whitman, Jeanne Neild and her husband Fred of California and Richard Pecoraro and his wife Norma of Nevada, his brothers Ernest Pecoraro of Roslindale and Carmine Pecoraro of WA. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Grace M. DeRosa and brother of the late Mary Quinn and Eva Rice.
His funeral service will be held Friday January 14 at 6 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 2-6 PM. Donations in his name may be made to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, Inc. 91 Longwater Circle, Norwell, MA 02061.
