Paul Thomas Sullivan, a devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 in Whitman, MA, due to natural causes. He was born on May 4, 1946, in South Boston, MA, as the second son to Dennis J. Sullivan and Rita Sullivan.
Paul spent his early years in South Boston until his family relocated to Braintree, where he attended Braintree High School. An accomplished athlete, he was recognized in the Braintree High Basketball Hall of Fame in 1964 for their undefeated season and winning the State finals at the historic Boston Garden before graduating in 1964.
Following his graduation, Paul proudly served in the United States Navy, working on the crash crew. His service took him across Europe, with a significant portion of his time spent stationed in Spain, where he often remarked on the stunning beauty of its beaches.
After his honorable discharge, Paul joined the Boston Pipefitters Union Local 537, dedicating his career to the trade until his retirement. He married his beloved wife, Diane C. Sullivan, in 1975, and together they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 12, 2025.
Paul is survived by his wife, Diane; his brother-in-law, William Monahan (Linda); his sister-in-law, Maureen Sullivan; his son, Paul (Danielle) Sullivan; and his cherished grandchildren, William and Rosalie Sullivan. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
A loving grandfather, Paul delighted in spending time with William and Rosalie, often showering them with Dunkin' Donuts gift cards. He was a private man but took immense pride in his son, who followed in his footsteps to become a pipefitter, as well as in his grandchildren, frequently carrying an abundance of their photographs in his wallet.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Rita, and his brother, Dennis. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 21st from 2-5pm. A funeral service will be on the following day, Monday, December 22nd at 10am in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel followed by a burial at St James Cemetery, Whitman.
