Obituary

Whitman – Richard M. Cheney 58, a 25 year resident of Whitman died Friday January 1 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Bigelow) Cheney.

Born in Dorchester and raised in Quincy he was the son of Ruth (Doody) Cheney of Quincy and the late Charles Cheney, and a graduate of Quincy High Class of 1969.

Richard had worked as a carpenter for 25 years; and was self-employed for 10 of those years. He enjoyed the challenge of working on and restoring old cars.

In addition to his wife Kathy and his mother he is survived by his loving children Bryan and Kendra Cheney both of Whitman, his siblings Carolee Cheney of Quincy, Robert Cheney and his wife Adrienne of Middleboro, David Cheney of Whitman, Alan Cheney and his wife Brendah and William Cheney all of Marlboro. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Karen Cieslik and her husband Bob of Hanson, his brother-in law Rick Bigelow of Colorado, his children and grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held Friday January 8 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 7 from 2-4 & 7-9.
