Obituary

Richard R. Donovan of Whitman passed away unexpectedly on January 4, 2026, as a loving husband to Mary Theresa “Terri” Donovan, devoted father to Keith, Kevin (wife, Leah), and Julia, and proud grandfather to Blair. Rick was born on December 14, 1960, and was a graduate of the Abington High School Class of 1979.

Rick married Terri on August 2, 1986, and treated her like a queen for their 39 years of marriage. As a father of two Eagle Scouts, he devoted countless hours to the Boy Scouts of America. He also enjoyed attending a decade of his daughter’s dance recitals, even participating in some father-daughter dances. Rick worked tirelessly to provide for his family as a professional class A truck driver for the US Postal Service among other organizations, driving tractor trailers and other delivery vehicles for over 40 years with zero accidents, receiving recognition for dedicated service and safety.

Rick was patient, honest, loyal, and humorous. He enjoyed the outdoors and the simple things in life—fishing and boating in the lakes and ponds of New England, blasting classic rock on his surround sound, a good sci-fi series, and a nice meal with family and close friends.

Rick is also survived by his sister Bev, brother Bobby, and his many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. His warm smile, quick wit, and perfectly timed jokes will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Visiting hours will be held at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9th. A funeral mass will take place at the Holy Ghost Parish at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10th. Rick will be buried at St. James Cemetery on Harvard Street in Whitman.
