Obituary

Robert L. Harmon of Bridgewater Massachusetts, beloved husband of Leona E. (Martin), died on November 30, 2025. He “Celebrated the 55th Anniversary of his 39th” birthday this past June.

Robert was born in Brockton Massachusetts on June 6, 1931. The son of Maurice G. Harmon and Mary Ann Rita (Hebert) Harmon. Brother to the late M Virginia (Harmon) Dwyer, the late John J. Harmon, and the late Maureen A. (Harmon) Simmons.

Robert grew up in the beautiful town of Whitman. He enjoyed playing football, basketball, and baseball through the Catholic Youth Organization. He was a 1950 graduate of Whitman High School.

In August of 1950 Robert joined the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at an undisclosed location in Germany, with the 41st Radio Squadron Mobile, proudly serving his country. During his time in Germany, Robert enjoyed traveling with his Air Force team mates playing basketball at various military bases. Robert traveled throughout France, Denmark, Austria and Italy, enjoying the beauty of the landscape and learning their cultures. While living in Germany, Robert also found his passion for the game of golf.

Upon returning from Germany, Robert attended the New England Linotype School, training to be a printer where he learned all phases of the assembly of a newspaper. In the practicing of the skills he dearly loved, he worked for the Old Colony Memorial in Plymouth, the Boston Globe, as well as the Brockton Enterprise where he retired after 32 years.

On December 29, 1956, Robert and Leona were wed. Throughout their lives they enjoyed celebratory gatherings “The Parties” and traveling, with family and friends.

A member of Ridder Farm Golf Course for over 50 years. Robert enjoyed sharing his passion for the game of golf with his wife, sons, daughter, grandsons, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons, and friends. As well as with his life long golf buddies.

Robert was a devoted member of the Holy Ghost Parish in Whitman, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the Whitman VFW.

Robert is survived by his wife, Leona E. (Martin), daughter MaryAnn (Harmon) Corthell and her husband Robert W. Corthell III, son Thomas L. Harmon. Robert was the father to the late, John J. Harmon. Robert is also survived by his grandchildren; Mathew, Daniel, Adam, and Kaitlynn. His great grandchildren; Teagan, Gavin and Marty. He was the loving cousin and a loving “Uncle Bob” to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, December 11th, at 10:30 AM at the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. An internment will take place on Friday, December 12th at 11:15 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne Massachusetts with a Military service.
