Obituary

Robert A. McDougall, 82, of Abington, MA died on May 8, 2026 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in South Boston on December 2, 1943, he was the son of the late Alexander McDougall and the late Margaret (Richards) McDougall of South Boston.

He graduated from Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston in 1962. From there he started working at the First National Bank of Boston. It was there that he reconnected with some old friends from high school who introduced him to the love of his life Jane. They married in 1974 and eventually settled in Abington. They had one daughter, Jeannette (McDougall) Libby.

Bob continued to work for the same bank though the name changed multiple times. He earned an associates degree from Massasoit Community College in 1982 and eventually worked his way up to manager of fraud and loss prevention when he retired from Santander Bank in December of 2005. He then took on his most favorite roll of all, Grampy Bob. His grandkids were the love and pride of his life and he lived for everything they did.

In addition to his family, Bob was an avid reader who was a regular face at the Abington Public Library. He was also extremely involved in his local chapter of the Puritan Masonic Lodge as a Past Master. In addition, he was a Past Patron of the Pilgrim Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Bob was always willing to support and volunteer for charities and organizations such as Shriners, Habitat For Humanity, and Hospice.

He was the husband of Jane (Haven) McDougall of 52 years of Abington. He leaves behind his daughter, Jeannette (McDougall) Libby and two grandchildren, Phoebe and Owen Libby all of Abington. He was a life long animal lover who leaves behind his beloved cats and dog. He was also predeceased by his sister Patricia McDougall of Bayonne, NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Funeral services directly after on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Blanchard’s Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth Street, Whitman, MA. Burial will be private at a later date. All those in attendance are invited back to a Celebration of Life luncheon at The Tri-Town Masonic Temple 38 Franklin Street East Bridgewater, MA.
