Robert F.
Nolan
Mar 28, 1950 — Jul 1, 2026
Robert F. Nolan of Hull, Massachusetts died on July 1, 2026 when he tragically drowned at Nantasket Beach in Hull. Born in Boston on March 28, 1950 and raised in Abington, Bob was the son of the late John J. Nolan and Elizabeth (Whalen) Nolan.
Bob graduated from Abington High School in 1968. After attending St. Anselm College and the University of South Florida, he worked as a high school English teacher. Years later Bob joined the Peace Corps where he volunteered for several years helping to improve lives and living situations of the people of Honduras and St. Lucia.
Bob continued in the human services field, working with adults with disabilities and special needs. His kindness and compassion for others made this field a natural fit for him. He held many roles including job coaching, tutoring, mentoring and assisting in and teaching daily living skills. Bob thoroughly enjoyed his currentpart time retirement job and the people he worked with at the Village Market in Hull.
Bob was a fan of all sports, but playing a round of golf with friends was his idea of a perfect day. He loved the outdoors, was an avid reader, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was impossible to beat at a game of Scrabble. Bob was very close to his family and loved spending time with them. He also enjoyed spending time with his group of “Abington guys” whose friendships began in high school and continue to this day.
Bob leaves behind his daughter, Emily Thompson and her fiancé Jeffrey Purssell of Holiday, Florida; his sister, Barbara Garvey and her husband Michael Viscio of Middleborough; his adoring niece, Erin Garvey of Bridgewater; his dear friend, Diane MacKenzie of Antrim, New Hampshire; and several cousins.
Bob will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. His family will continue to think of him every day and fondly remember the love, joy and humor he brought to our lives.
Arrangements are private at the family’s request.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
