Robert J. Packer 63, a lifelong resident of Whitman, died Tuesday May 31 after a period of failing health.
Born in Boston and raised in Whitman, he was the son of Elizabeth M. (Hughes) Packer of Whitman and the late Robert E. Packer.
Bob was a graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School and had worked many years as a self-employed painter. In 2001 worked in the maintenance department for the Whitman-Hanson school system.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and had loved to travel.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his children Robert Packer, Jr. of Bridgewater, Joshua and Justin O'Kelly both of East Bridgewater and Dawna and Deanna Packer both of Bridgewater, his siblings Thomas Packer of Whitman, Kathleen Hendrix of Maine and Maureen Betters of Pembroke as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Richard Packer.
His services will be held Saturday June 4 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Friday June 3 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
