Obituary

Thomas A. Griffin, lovingly known as Tom, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by his devoted family. He was born on March 16, 1936, in Thomasville, Alabama, to the late Ivy J. Griffin and Gladys E. Griffin.

A proud veteran, Tom honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Albany (CA-123). Following his military service, he dedicated many years to the United States Post Office as a clerk at the Uphams Corner office in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Known for his strong work ethic, kindness, and friendly demeanor, Tom was respected and loved by both coworkers and customers alike.

After retiring from the Postal Service, Tom’s generous spirit led him to a new role as a bus driver in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts. In this position, he found great joy in interacting with children each day, sharing his gentle nature, caring heart, and uplifting presence. He was deeply loved by those on his route and cherished every moment of this chapter in his life.

Tom’s greatest legacy was his unwavering kindness—to his family, extended family, friends, and even strangers. His gentle spirit touched everyone he met, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: golfing, working on puzzles, taking his morning walks, and spending meaningful time with loved ones.

Tom was also an author, having written a book about his formative years titled The House in the Bottom, dedicated to his beloved mother, Gladys. These memories were among his most treasured stories, and through his book, they remain a lasting gift to future generations.

He was predeceased by his brother, Ivy J. Griffin Jr., and his sister, Waurine Wallace.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Linda Griffin; his sons, Thomas J. Griffin (Linda), Frederick A. Griffin (Patty), and Paul L. Griffin; his daughter, Lori Kroese (Theo); his step-children, Ronnie Coletti (Kim), Lisa Hockanson (Michael) and Traci Coletti; his sisters, Martha Anderson (Bill), Margaret Buchanan (Bucky), and Keeble Brantley (Jim); his cherished grandchildren and great- grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend Tom’s visiting hours on Saturday, February 7th, from 3:00-5:00 PM with a 5:00 PM funeral service to follow at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A celebration of Tom’s life will immediately follow the service at the Stonemeadow clubhouse at 105 Bridgestone Dr, Bridgewater MA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Navy Seal Foundation in Thomas A. Griffins name to provide critical support to Naval veterans and families.
