Obituary

Thomas Edward "Eddie" MacPhail, of Whitman, MA, passed away suddenly in the early morning of November 21, 2025, at the age of 82. Born in Boston on October 29, 1943, Eddie was the beloved son of Mary (MacRae) MacPhail and Malcolm Neil MacPhail. He was raised in Abington, MA and was the oldest brother-and last surviving sibling-of Douglas MacPhail and Heather
(MacPhail) La Dieu.

Eddie was married to his devoted wife, Josephine (Romano) MacPhail, with whom he shared 29 years of love, partnership, and companionship. He was the proud father of Jesse MacPhail of Assonet and his wife Jennifer (Dusseault) MacPhail, Margo (MacPhail) LaPointe of Hingham and her former husband Kent "Tom" LaPointe of Abington, and Molly MacPhail of Hanson, and was also the former husband of Jeanette MacPhail of Hanson. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren Liam MacPhail, Jack MacPhail, Avery LaPointe, and Annabelle LaPointe. Eddie also leaves behind his lifelong best friend Tommy Tucker of Florida.

A 1961 graduate of Abington High School, Eddie continued his education at Burdett Business School, where he graduated with honors. As a young man, he worked at Damon Pontiac in Abington and Atlantic Research, but found his lifelong vocation in carpentry. Eddie was a proud member of the MA Carpenter's Union, where he dedicated decades of skilled and hardworking service before retiring in 1998. Eddie was a Master Mason and member of the John Cutler Lodge where he spent a lot of time supporting events and assisting with blood drives. Additionally, Eddie was an avid animal lover and cared for many animals throughout his life including his beloved white German Shepherd, Barney. In the winter months you could find him feeding the birds and squirrels with homemade suet and treats.

Though he was a diligent worker and a man of quiet pride, Eddie's greatest love was always his family. He treasured many gatherings throughout the years with nearby family, as well as relatives from Cape Breton Nova Scotia. He was the "unofficial" family historian remembering countless stories from the old days with pinpoint accuracy. Eddie left an impression upon everyone he met. A fierce protector of those he loved, he always had your back and could be counted upon to come through. He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, as well as his quick sense of humor and charisma. He was a wonderful man who will be missed by many.

Arrangements are currently incomplete and will be shared when finalized.
