William P. “Bill” Plante, of Hanson, Massachusetts, passed away on September 26, 2026, at the age of 53, surrounded by love after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Born on October 27, 1972, in Westfield, Massachusetts, to Terry and Judy Plante of Whitman, Bill grew up in Whitman and shared an especially close bond with his parents as their only child.

If you knew Bill, chances are he made you laugh. His quick wit, perfectly timed one-liners, teasing, and ability to find humor in nearly any situation were simply part of who he was. Even throughout the most difficult days of his illness, Bill never lost that part of himself. Right up until the very end, he was still cracking jokes and making the people around him laugh.

Underneath all that humor was an incredibly kind man who was easy to like and even easier to love. A graduate of South Shore Vocational Technical High School, Bill built his career in the construction industry and was a dedicated project superintendent with Keith Construction in Canton, Massachusetts. His strong work ethic, personality, and humor made him a valued coworker and friend.

Bill shared his life with his longtime significant other and best friend, Erica Burke of Hanson. Together they built a life filled with love, family, laughter, teasing, and countless memories, standing beside one another through both the ordinary days and the hardest ones.

One of Bill’s greatest joys was being a stepdad to Erica’s son, Declan, whom he loved unconditionally. Bill and Declan shared a special bond and loved golfing, enthusiastically watching NFL football together, joking around, and doing their own special handshake. Bill encouraged and supported Declan and, most importantly, simply showed up for him. The love, laughter, traditions, and memories they shared will always be a part of Declan.

 Bill also adored his beloved pets, Rubi and Youkie, and they adored him right back. He loved them fiercely, and they were truly part of his family.

Bill will be remembered as a deeply loved partner, stepdad, son, family member, coworker, and friend—but perhaps most of all, he will be remembered for the laughter he brought into so many lives. Cancer changed many things, but it never took away Bill’s humor or his ability to make others smile.

 He made people laugh. He made people feel loved. And he remained himself until the very end.

 The stories—and the laughter that comes with them—will live on in everyone who was lucky enough to know and love Bill.

Visiting hours will be held at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth Street, Whitman, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.
